Using Turnitin Directly
Turnitin provides a number of resources to assist when using Turnitin outside of Canvas:
If this is the first time you'll use Turnitin outside of Canvas, create your Turnitin account by first using Turnitin through Canvas and then resetting your Turnitin password. Until you use Turnitin in Canvas at least once, you will not have a user account at Turnitin.com. To reset your password, click on the Login link on the upper right side of the Turnitin.com screen, and then click Forgot your password. Follow the on-screen instructions, which will include providing your e-mail address and your last name to reset your password. When you are done resetting your password, you will be able to login directly to Turnitin.com.
To add a class to your account, do the following:
- Click on the "Add Class" button located on your instructor homepage.
- Complete the information on the page (the class name, a class enrollment password, a class number or code (optional) and a course description (optional)). When done, click on the "Submit" button.
- Click the checkbox next to the option for class sections only if you have teaching assistants and want them to manage sections of your class. If you do choose to add sections, you will also need to enter a TA join password.
- A second confirmation window will open containing the Turnitin class ID for the class. This information, along with the password, must be provided to the students in your class so they can submit their assignments to Turnitin.
In the future when you log on to Turnitin, enter your e-mail address and password in the Login area on the upper right side of the screen. You should be taken to the page that displays the classes you set up previously. You may also want to distribute information to your students which gives them instructions on how to establish a student account with Turnitin, add your class to their student account, and submit papers to Turnitin.
