Baylor ITS Approves MacOS Monterey (12.2) for Use

February 8, 2022

After an extensive period of testing, Baylor ITS approved the latest edition of Apple's Monterey operating system (12.2) for use on Baylor-owned devices.

Monterey was released by Apple on October 25, 2021, and even prior to its public release, Baylor ITS identified a series of incompatibilities with mission-critical software and campus infrastructure.

"For the past few months, we have been working with our vendor partners and with Apple to ensure that the initial issues with Monterey were resolved," said Brent Harris, assistant vice president for client services. "Now that our testing shows no further conflicts with our software and systems, we are encouraging our Apple user base to upgrade to Monterey on their Baylor-owned devices."

Every time Microsoft or Apple release operating system updates, Baylor ITS performs its own testing and consults with colleagues at other higher education institutions to identify potential software and hardware conflicts and infrastructure issues. While software companies test their software updates prior to release for maximum compatibility, there is no way they can anticipate how their updates will function within enterprise environments like Baylor.

To update to MacOS Monterey, users of Baylor-owned devices should open System Preferences from the Apple menu (upper left-hand corner of the Apple Desktop). Then, select the Software Update icon and follow the instructions.
